Genesis was awarded the contract to prep and paint the KCMO Water Department Intake Structure at the Missouri River and to prep and paint the lime silos at the Water Department Treatment Plant.
GES started the intake structure first during the late fall of 2018. Because the Missouri River is on the west side of the intake structure, scaffolding was utilized for full access. Once the scaffolding was erected and wrapped to contain blast media from entering the river, surface was blasted to remove all the existing coating and stained it with 2 coats of Sherwin Williams D.O.T. Concrete Sealer. This side was done first to ensure not be impacted by spring flooding. The other 3 sides were prepped and coated the following spring utilizing aerial lifts.
The roof cranes were specified to be pressure washed, SSPC SP3 (power tool clean) and spot primed with Sherwin Williams Macropoxy 646. A full coat of Macropoxy 646 was then applied followed by a full coat of Hi-Solids Polyurethane topcoat.
The lime silo was prepped and coated later the following spring and early summer after the intake structure was completed. Utilizing both lifts and staging, the silo was pressure washed to remove all the lime and loosely adhered existing paint. Because the existing coating was not degraded as bad as the intake structure, the specification was to spot prime all bare concrete with Sherwin Williams Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer followed by 1 full coat of Loxon XP Waterproofing Masonry Coating. A logo was then painted on both the north and south sides of the silo utilizing Sher-Cryl HPA Acrylic.
The project was started on November 2018, and completed on July 2019.
