Akers Energy Center Fuel Tank Replacement

Project Details

Upon award of this project, Genesis provided submittals, schedule, and all other documentation needed prior to mobilizing to the jobsite. As the work was to be on a college campus, safety in the form of chain link fencing around the perimeter of the jobsite and orange fencing around pit excavations was utilized to protect students and faculty.

The scope included the removal of two existing 13,000 gallon underground concrete vaults, removal of two 20,000 gallon existing underground steel tanks, installation of two new 15,000 gallon underground storage tanks, relocation of an existing fire line, and associated concrete paving removal and replacement in the area of the USTs and vaults. Additionally, due to the nature of UST removal risk of contamination, Genesis was also in compliance with KDHE regulations for handling contaminated materials including tank contents, tanks, vaults, and contaminated soils outside of the tanks.

Genesis has provided valuable team services during the project including value engineering with recommended vent pipe relocation, compliance with KDHE upon discovery of contamination, and addressing unknown site conditions such as contamination within the abandoned concrete vaults.
